The exciting start made by Darley Stud’s Frosted (USA) has been among the highlights in what shapes as a stellar collection of first season sires.
The son of Tapit (USA) went 1-2 in a thrilling finish to Saturday’s Listed Dequetteville Stakes at Morphettville with Godolphin’s Cloudy defeating her better-fancied stablemate Translation.
With a half-length covering the first four across the line, Cloudy defeated Translation by a long head with the Toronado (IRE) filly Isles Of Avalon a short-head back in third.
Third behind Frosted’s top-class son Ingratiating in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington when on debut last October, Cloudy performed below expectations at her following two starts before breaking her maiden over 1000 metres at Bendigo on February 23. A month later, she finished fourth behind Starry Legend in the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush at Bendigo.

A half-sister to the Group III ATC Summer Cup winner Yulalona (Dubai Destination), Applegate was sold by Godolphin last year at the National Broodmare Sale.
Carrying a filly by Impending, Applegate was bought by Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $60,000. She was covered by So You Think last spring and exported to New Zealand.
Cloudy becomes the fourth stakes-winner for Frosted (USA) worldwide and his second in Australia.
With four stakes performers and five winners from just nine runners in Australia to date, from a crop of 65 foals, Frosted (USA) is currently the fifth leading first season sire.
