Highest Australian Sales Averages

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 9

The 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this week generated phenomenal returns for our champion sires in the sale ring with Darley heavyweight Exceed and Excel leading the way with his five yearlings averaging $984,000, but where does that fit in the overall picture of all time sale averages in Australia?

Exceed and Excel had five yearlings average $984,000 at Inglis Easter.

The answer is it fits near the top of the list with only the Japanese legend Sunday Silence ahead of his effort this year.

Arrowfield have had a long association with Shadai Stallion Station and nearly 20 years ago sent select mares to be covered by Sunday Silence as they have done more recently by his champion son Deep Impact.

Exclusivity most often generates those freakishly high sale averages when a magical stallion has a small number of yearlings, which makes it all the more remarkable when a stallion has a big draft and smashes it out of the park as we saw with Redoute’s Choice in 2006 and I Am Invincible at Inglis Easter this year.

The table below shows the Top 30 sire sale averages in Australia (three or more yearlings sold).
