Fastnet Rock Keeps the 2YO Winners Coming

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 17

Champion sire Fastnet Rock is having a great run with his juveniles posting his sixth Australian 2YO winner this season at Randwick on Wednesday when good looking colt Coastwatch opened his account bringing a timely update for his half-brother to be offered at Inglis Easter.

Prepared by Chris Waller, Coastwatch did himself no favours in his first campaign when he placed once from three starts last year, but has returned a much more mature and settled colt.

Resuming in a 1400m maiden on a wet track, Coastwatch was well ridden by James McDonald and hit the line hard in a thrilling three way finish to claim a determined nose win.

“He wanted to do a few things wrong last time and get too excited, but he’s a completely different horse since he came back in,” said Chris Waller, who will no doubt be looking for slightly longer races for the half-brother to Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Mighty Boss.

Coastwatch as a yearling
A $750,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Mulcaster Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft, Coastwatch runs for a syndicate that includes Coolmore and partners.

A half-brother to not only Mighty Boss, but also stakes-placed Shiralee, Coastwatch was foaled and raised at Coolmore and is the fifth winner from six foals to race from good producer Bullion Mansion, an Encosta de Lago daughter4 of Group I winner La Volta.

Coolmore will offer the current yearling from Bullion Mansion, a colt by Pierro at Inglis Easter as Lot 228.

Bullion Mansion produced a filly by Justify (USA) last spring and is now back in foal to Pierro.

Fastnet Rock will have a runner in the Golden Slipper on Saturday in the Chris Waller trained O'President and has 17 entries for the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
