Grangewilliam Stud Secure Miss Federer

Media Release - Wednesday March 17

Multiple stakes winning mare Miss Federer has been secured for $95,000 by the Corcoran family of Grangewilliam Stud on Monday night via Gavelhouse Plus.

Miss Federer

The former Andrew Carston-trained daughter of Swiss Ace garnered plenty of international interest with bidders active from Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.

Mark Corcoran was thrilled to be adding Miss Federer to the ever-growing Grangewilliam broodmare band “We are rapt to have secured Miss Federer, she was a precocious, fast and particularly tough mare,” he said.

“Her dam Halobelle was a dual stakes winner and her only other foal to race is also a black-type performer.

“I seek to steadily improve our broodmare band and a quality young race mare of Miss Federer’s calibre is a welcome addition.”

Now focussing on the 2021 breeding season, Corcoran’s mating plans are well underway with Miss Federer marked down to visit resident sire Derryn (Hinchinbrook).

“Derryn is a Group One performed son of Hinchinbrook whose yearlings are great types who walk with purpose and the feedback from the breakers is fantastic.

“He has all the key attributes to be a success at stud and the mating with Miss Federer will put plenty of strength over her and I believe her speed and precociousness will provide a lovely match with Derryn’s impressive acceleration and fight at the business end of a race.

“I am excited and can’t wait to see what she will produce” Corcoran concluded.

Derryn stands alongside Wyndspelle, The Bold One and Zed at the Waitotara-based farm.

Currently online is a 72 Lot mixed bloodstock auction that will close from 7pm (NZ) on Monday 22 March while on Gavelhouse Plus is the 52 Lot Valachi Downs’ Unreserved Reduction Sale which will run through until 7pm (NZ) on Friday 26 March.
