Drawn barrier 12 in the field of 14, Josh Parr adopted aggressive tactics from the outset that served the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly well.
With a race-fit horse underneath him, Parr was intent on setting a strong tempo
in front and it had the field of mostly first-up horses under pressure
throughout.The only runner to emerge from the chasing pack was the Chris Waller-trained Foxplay, but Global Glamour's Tulloch Lodge conditioning helped her cling to a short-half head margin in the 1200 metre sprint.
"Gai (Waterhouse), Adrian (Bott) and I thought the only way possible to beat these horses was to make it a proper test and she showed her class," Parr said.
"She's a superstar. Went fast, quickened off a hot tempo and held on strongly – Not many of them can do that."
The post-race comments of beaten jockeys Corey Brown (Spright) and Brenton Avdulla (Moqueen- seventh) served to illustrate the raw speed of Global Glamour(images Steve Hart) .
"It felt like there was two races going on, up where the winner was and back where we were," Brown said.
"The way Josh rode his horse he just gutted everything else behind him," Avdulla said.
A $65,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft for renowned bloodstock agent James Bester on behalf of the It's All About the Girls Syndicate, Global Glamour has won four of eight starts earning over $1.1 million for her diverse group of lady owners, who come from all over the world.
Global Glamour was also bred by Lauriston and is the second winner for metro winning Testa Rossa mare Spectacula, who was one of 220 mares covered last spring by Star Witness at a reduced fee of $16,500.
Star Witness kicked some big goals after his fee was reduced last year siring not only Global Glamour, but also Group II winner Star Turn and now rising star Fuhryk, so breeders that stuck with him last year will be feeling pretty good about themselves!
