Black Type Leaders

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 15
With spring stakes racing now complete the leading Australian Sires List can often be somewhat skewed by the huge prizemoney on the majors, but a reliable guide as to just which stallions are firing comes when looking at their success by stakes-winners.

Leading Sires of Australian SW's (three or more, source Arion)

Exceed and ExcelWith eight stakes-winners each, Snitzel (Arrowfield) and Exceed and Excel (Darley) lead the way, with Lonhro (Darley) and Street Cry (IRE) (Darley)nipping at their heels on six stakes-winners each.

So three of the top four sires by stakes-winners come out of the all powerful Darley barn, albeit Street Cry sadly no longer with us.

Exceed and Excel has been quick off the mark with his juveniles as among his eight stakes-winners are three stakes-winning two year-olds.

Fastnet Rock (Coolmore), Not a Single Doubt (Arrowfield) and High Chaparral (IRE) (Coolmore) follow on five stakes-winners, High Chaparral also gone to God with his last yearlings to sell in 2017.

I Am Invincible (Yarraman) is next on four stakes-winners with seven more stallions on three stakes-winners.
