Flemington Stakes-Winner for Hinchinbrook

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 1
Yarraman Park's I Am Invincible has been a star performer at the Flemington Carnival so far posting three stakes-winners, but it was his barn mate Hinchinbrook who put up the winner of the Listed VRC MSS Security Sprint on Cup Day in speedy mare Flippant.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained mare improved sharply at her second run back from a spell, despite being easy in the market.

Flippant - images Grant CourtneyWell ridden by Blake Shinn, she travelled just off the pace and surged to the line to win the 1200 metre sprint by two and a half lengths.

"She lost her way a little bit towards the end of last season but we gave her a really good spell and she's come back in great order," said Paul Snowden.

A $220,000 Magic Millions purchase for McKeever Bloodstock from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft, Flippant runs for a big syndicate that includes Yarraman Park, who stand her sire Hinchinbrook.

Already a stakes-winner, she has the overall record of five wins and a second from 11 starts with prizemoney topping $416,000.

She's bred to be good as the second winner from two to race for Lady Beckworth, who is a winning half-sister by General Nediym to the dam of Group I stars Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel.

Closely related to Atlantic Jewel, who is by Hinchinbrook's sire Fastnet Rock, Flippant was the most expensive filly from the first crop of Hinchinbrook, so it's fitting to see her emerging as such a smart mare.

Lady Beckworth was sold as part of the Bell River Dispersal earlier this year at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale where she was snapped up by Henry Field Bloodstock for $400,000 in foal to Hinchinbrook.

She produced a full brother to Flippant for her new owners this spring.
