Fabergino All The Way in the Kensington Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday January 16

Blessed with God-given natural speed, the flying Perth-trained mare Fabergino had her opponents off the bit chasing at the halfway mark of Saturday’s Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

Under the steadier of 60kgs the 6yo daughter of Maschino kept up a strong gallop under Jordan Childs to defeat Sword of Mercy (Sebring) by one and a quarter lengths with Pandemic (Sepoy) a long-neck back in third.

It was the fifth stakes-win for the 6yo grey mare who advances her record to 11 wins, one second and two thirds from 17 starts with earnings of $711,550.

Trainer Tiarnna Robertson said the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes over the same track and distance on February 13 was on the agenda.

“She loves the 1000 metres, she loves the straight, she loves Flemington and hopefully if the weather permits we can tick four boxes on the day,” Robertson said.

“This is why we are here, and it’s good when it pays off. It shows we made the right decision to bring her back over and was good to see her win again.

“She was cruising, doing it easily. Jordan rides her perfectly. Looking at the time there is a bit of a give in the track. She is not as comfortable, but she is still pretty brilliant, and we are really happy with her.”

Fabergino  is a first-crop daughter of Alwyn Park’s Encosta De Lago stallion Maschino, and is raced by a partnership that includes her breeder Jim Anderson and some owners that are based in England.

Anderson also raced Maschino and bought Fabergino’s dam Miss Razyana (Danzero) through Michael Flannery Bloodstock for $36,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

John Chalmers Bloodstock outlaid $50,000 for a full-sister to Fabergino at the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

Miss Razyana won her first two starts at Canterbury, but when she bled in the 2008 Listed Nivison Stakes at Randwick she was sent to North America where she won in Canada before being repatriated.

The daughter of Danzero has a colt foal by Maschino and was covered by him again last spring.
