After her half-sister Hela kept her record at a perfect three for three earlier in the day, the last start Listed Conquering Stakes winner Toorak Affair proved too good for the ever-consistent Mandela Effect in Friday’s Listed Kevin SharkieTasmania Stakes (1600m) at Launceston.
Ridden by Anthony Darmanin for trainer Michael Trinder, the daughter of Toorak Toff defeated Mandela Effect (Turfonttein) by a neck with Queen La Diva (Snippetson) one and three-quarters of a length back in third.
“I keep telling the owners she is going from strength to strength. Her work on Saturday was quite good, her work on Tuesday was about six lengths better, and she did it with ease,” Trinder said.

“She came to the stable in very good order from Troy Blacker, who did a marvellous job with her, and she has just continued to improve and has exceeded my expectations greatly.”
A $50,000 purchase by Kelvin Wadley out of the Alva Vale draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, Toorak Affair will attempt to defend her crown in the Hobart Cup.
With her third stakes win the 7yo daughter of Toorak Toff advances her record to 14 wins, six seconds and two thirds from 39 starts with earnings of $479,725.
Toorak Affair and her 3yo half-sister Hela (Night Of Thunder) are out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Smooth Return.
Purchased by Alva Stud for $12,000 at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale, Smooth Return foaled an Akeed Mofeed (GB) colt on December 17.
Toorak Affair is one of two stakes-winners for Toorak Toff.
