Greg Polson previews Wellington Monday September 11

Greg Polson - Monday September 11

Trials and ideal barrier draws suggest an early double is on the cards for jockey Anthony Cavallo at Wellington on Monday.

Cavallo's booking for the Ken Parsons-trained Develop in the Mudgee Machinery Maiden Plate (900m) looks a strong lead for punters.

Develop will be having her first race start at Wellington after finishing runner-up in both her trials at Cowra and Parkes with both trials run in respectable time.

Cavallo rode Develop in her latest trial and it is significant that Cavallo was on board the early favourite for the race, She's All Spirit from the Cameron Crockett yard in her latest trial when fourth at Dubbo.

Develop will launch from barrier two and at $6.50 in early betting markets is well worth an investment to see if we have read the jockey engagements correctly.

Whilst Cavallo opposes the Cameron Crockett stable riding Develop he will be with the camp taking the ride on early favourite Good Verdict in the Branson Surveyors Maiden Handicap (1100m).

Good Verdict will be having his first start for Crockett after four runs for the Kim Waugh stable including a Scone second resuming last time in.

Good Verdict trialled nicely at Dubbo on August 28 settling behind the speed before working home solidly to finish second in a trial that was run in quick time and will get all the favours in the run after drawing the inside gate.

Good Verdict looks primed for a first-up win.

Cavallo stands out as the jockey to follow at Wellington on Monday with another of his rides, the Dean Mirfin-trained Repentant in the Peter Milling & Co Class 2 Handicap (900m) a genuine winning chance after finishing runner-up at Bathurst last time out.
