Record Breaking Return for Spirit Of Boom's Jonker

Mark Smith - Saturday November 14

Winless since kickstarting his career with runaway wins at Wyong and Newcastle back in December 2017, Jonker made a statement for his new stable when lowering Takeover Targets Doomben 1200m course record in Saturday’s Listed Keith Noud Quality.

Now trained by Tony Gollan, the 5yo son of Spirit of Boom made every post a winner under Jim Byrne to stop the clock at 1:7.83. he had a four and a half-length margin over Deep Image (Testa Rossa) with a further half-head back to Master Jamie (Poet’s Voice) in third.

“He reminds me so much of his father. It’s just like having (Spirit Of Boom) back in the stable again,” Gollan told Racenet.

“We took plenty of time to get him ready and he put the writing on the wall in the trial, but I guess we just wanted to see some intent on raceday.”

Gollan indicated that Jonker will run next in the George Moore Stakes on December 5 on his way to the Magic Millions raceday on January 16.

Bred by Wicklow Lodge, Jonker was a $45,000 purchase by part-owner Doug Crich from the Fig Tree Thoroughbreds draft at session two of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
