Dissident's Yes Baby Yes Blows Them Away in Fillies Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday October 24

The champagne corks will be popping at Newgate Farm as one after another of their resident stallions hit the board on Saturday, the latest being the Dissident filly Yes Baby Yes who could not be caught in Saturday’s Group II $300,000 Lexus Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Under a positive ride by Craig Williams, Yes Baby Yes led at every call to defeat the well-performed Zebedee filly Ecumenical by three and three-quarter lengths with the Fighting Sun filly Miss Inbetween a further two lengths back in third.

The Leon and Troy Corstens-trained Winless in five starts since breaking her maiden at Seymour back in July  but was a close-up sixth to Thermosphere in the Group II Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and most recently was a fighting second to Incredulous Dream at Caulfield.

“I was lucky, it’s all her heart and all her will. Full credit for her and her training combination,” Williams said.

“She’s been up for a long time. They backed-up in seven days and were that confident she would deliverer.”

Consigned by Sledmere Stud to the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Yes Baby Yes was purchased by Flemington Bloodstock/Malua Racing for $120,000 and Sledmere have retained an interest in the filly.

She is the third winner from as many to race out of the Exceed And Excel mare Exabelle whose dam Avabelle (Zabeel) is a half-sister to the Group 1 NZ Stakes winner Gaze (Cape Cross).

A $90,000 purchase at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Exabelle has a 2yo Shooting To Win colt named No Baby No, a yearling filly by Spieth and was covered by Dissident again last spring.

Yes Baby Yes becomes the second stakes winner for former Horse Of The Year Dissident who stands at Newgate Farm at a fee of $11,000.
