With a wing on every foot, the five-year-old Written Tycoon mare Pippie blasted out of the barriers under Damian Lane and made every post a winner in Friday night’s Group 1 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
The winner of the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield in February, the John and Chris Meagher-trained mare defeated Godolphin’s dual Group 1 winner Trekking (Street Cry) by three-quarters of a length with the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes heroine Bella Vella (Commands) a short-neck back in third ahead of the fast-finishing Brooklyn Hustle (Starspangledbanner).
Bred by Eureka Thoroughbreds Pippie advances her overall record to six wins and 2 seconds from 12 starts with earnings of $1,201,950.
It w
as a 21st Group 1 success for Lane.
“You just give her a bit of rein out of the barriers then just lay on her neck and she just does the rest,” Lane said.
“I thought I might have been in a bit of trouble on the corner when she came off the bridle but when I asked her for the maximum effort she dug in again.
“I have never been on one as quick as her early.”
Pippie was a $60,000 purchase out of the Eureka Stud draft at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
She is the first foal of the 6-time winning Ne Coupez Pas (USA) mare Coupe Express a half-sister to multiple stakes-placed Timely Truce from the family of dual Group II winner Merry Ruler.
Coupe Express has a 2yo filly by Defcon who was purchased for $70,000 by Shane Nichols Racing/Hollymount Stud out of the Eureka Stud draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
She missed to her cover by Hellbent in 2018 before returning to Spirit Of Boom last spring and she foaled a colt on September 6.
Pippie is one of 8 Group 1 winners for Written Tycoon who is standing his first season at Arrowfield Stud after heroic duty at Woodside Park Stud.
