Hot and Happening

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 30
A host of timely pedigree updates have made the Newhaven Park draft one of the most 'hot and happening' at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

English The Kelly family of Newhaven Park have been breeding top class thoroughbreds for nearly 100 years on their family owned farm at Boorowa in south western NSW with top class juvenile filly English the latest flagbearer for this historic stud.

A third generation Newhaven Park bred, Encosta de Lago filly English (picture Steve Hart)  was gallant in defeat when second in the Group I ATC Golden Slipper behind her Gai Waterhouse trained stablemate Vancouver and will get her chance to atone this Saturday.

The Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes will feature a stellar field minus Vancouver, so English will have a great chance to post her first Group I win given the tremendous record her trainer has in this race with horses coming out of the Golden Slipper.

Newhaven Park will present 20 lovely youngsters at Inglis Easter and the following entries all have significant pedigree updates, so let's go through them. Click here for the full draft.

Lot 56 Colt Redoute's Choice x Miss Marielle, by Encosta de Lago

Full brother to classy filly Peeping, who hasn't missed a place in five starts winning three of them highlighted by a Listed win in the ATC Sebring Stakes.

Peeping is the first foal of Miss Marielle and this is the second, so he's a colt that will be on everyone's radar.

Lot 120 Colt Sepoy x Raise, by Arena

Third foal of Group III winner Raise, whose first foal to race is High Chaparral (IRE) filly Monopole, who finished third in the Listed Tasmanian Oaks after the catalogue went to print and is with the astute Tony McEvoy stable.

Lot 238 Filly Smart Missile x Unabated, by Encosta de Lago

Half-sister to three winners including this season's talented three year-old filly Supara, who has gained valuable Black Type with placings in the Group II ATC Surround Stakes and Phar Lap Stakes with further Black Type goals at The Championships in her sights.

Lot 272 Filly Commands x Already, by More Than Ready (USA)

Third foal of a winning sister to Group II winner Brightexpectations, whose first foal to race is promising Not a Single Doubt two year-old The Grey Flash, who was second in the Group III SAJC Breeders Stakes last Saturday.

Lot 475 Filly Manhattan Rain x Sunriseontheoasis (USA), by Gilded Time

This is the fourth foal of a US stakes-winner, whose first three foals are all winners, the most recent being Fastnet Rock filly Winter Sweet, who won impressively on debut for Gai Waterhouse at Newcastle on March 14.

A filly with a bright future, Winter Sweet was bought from the Newhaven Easter two years ago by James Harron Bloodstock for $725,000 and runs for Dr Edmund and Mrs Belinda Bateman.
