Strong Trade Continues at MM Day Two Mares

Media Release - Tuesday July 28

Pierro's full sister Right Chord created history on Day Two of the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast today when selling for $1.05 million.

Catalogued as Lot 384, the blue blooded mare was presented by Godolphin and purchased by leading Sydney based bloodstock agent James Harron and in the process became the highest priced lot ever sold at auction in Australia by Godolphin.

The Lonhro mare, who was unraced, is not only a full sister to the five time Group One winner and Champion juvenile Pierro but she's also a half sister to the Group Two winner and Group One placed Ambience.

"She’s a very exciting mare and she's obviously quite a rare commodity and Pierro is doing an incredible job at stud," Harron said.

"I’ve been lucky to be quite closely associated with Pierro through the Kolivos family, so I was really excited to see this mare - she’s such a beautiful type and I think she's in foal to the perfect mating in Exceed And Excel."

"The page is outstanding and there’s a lot of fillies in the Godolphin system being bred to the best stallions in the country and being trained by one of the best trainers in the country (James Cummings), so you can look forward to lots of updates."

"With Pierro, he is just kicking so many goals for a young stallion, so she was a must-have and once we saw her, we fell in love with her."

Harron has been active across both days of the National Broodmare Sale and said he was delighted to be on the Gold Coast.

"It’s been very robust. It's great that we're able to get here for the sale and Magic Millions has done an incredible job to put it on," he added.

Godolphin Australia Managing Director Vin Cox was thrilled with the final price for Right Chord.

"It's a premium family, as evidenced, and we do have a lot of sisters and half-sisters to Pierro, but having said that, our view was to expose a branch of the family to the market."

"They become partners with us in the pedigree, their IP is valuable to us and they are obviously going to invest very heavily in the mare and it's something that, together, we might be able to keep building the pedigree," Cox said. "That was part our thinking."

"Coming up here I would have been delighted if someone said we were going to get a million for her we would have grabbed it with both hands, but it became evident that she was hugely popular during the week, as happens at a horse sale," Cox added. "But to crack seven figures is a remarkable result by anyone's chances."

"It is hard to have clear expectations in the current times," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "But I thought vendors on the whole did their best to meet the market."

"There are a lot of opportunities for buyers. A lot of these horses have got good covers and they are young mares and I expect anyone keeping their lists long at this sale would be a fruitful outcome for them in years to come."

"There is obviously a little bit more uncertainty at the moment, whether everyone has seen the mares, because there is a good percentage of them that are back at home. But all in all when you look at the figures and what the good mares made today I would have thought the vendors of them would be pleased with the outcomes."

"The average is healthy and there are plenty of buyers here that have got money to spend on the right product and a lot of it is still in their pockets, which bodes well for tomorrow and for the guys that are bidding online doing their research and getting amongst it."

"There's some important mares to go through the ring tomorrow including Viddora," Bowditch added.

"She was a superstar on the racetrack and she is as good looking a mare as is in the catalogue and she has a great cover to Lope de Vega. She is the headline act."
