It’s been a record breaking season for Newgate Farm’s Deep Field and the winners keep coming for the son of Northern Meteor, who added a 16th two year-old winner to his tally on Tuesday.

A homebred for Julie Sampson and Meridy Taite, as was her mother Cobblestones, progressive filly Maddox opened her account with a length victory as a hot favourite at Moe.

Second and third at her two previous runs this preparation, Maddox was overdue to break through and can undoubtedly win further races.

She is the first living foal for her dam Cobblestones, who was also trained by John Moloney and won four of 20 starts and over $130,000 in prizemoney.

A half-sister to Listed VRC St Leger winner Dornier from Group I placed stakes-winner Deloraine, Cobblestones has a yearling colt by So You Think and weanling colt by Star Witness to follow.

The most successful Australian second crop sire by winners in history, Deep Field stands at a fee of $55,000 this spring.
