Promising Debut for Royally Bred Filly

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 4
Champion trainer Chris Waller produced his first juvenile winner of the season at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when the blue-blooded More Than Ready (USA) filly Always Allison saluted for her breeder Paul Fleming and his wife Allison.

A winner at her only two previous trials last month, Always Allison was sent out favourite for the 1150 metre maiden and got the job done in good style to win by two and a half lengths.

"The writing has been on the wall that she had ability, but trials are different to raceday, so it was good to see her do it today," said Waller.

"She sprinted away like a good horse should."

Always Allison as a foalWhile the Fleming family have scaled back their thoroughbred interests significantly in recent years, notably with the sale of Tyreel Stud and much of the broodmare band, some mares were retained and Always Allison's dam Rhema is one of those.

Always Allison is a half-sister to Group II placed Kyria and is the third foal of Rhema, a minor winning half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) to Group I VRC Victoria Derby winner Benicio and Group II winner Romneya from brilliant sprinter Mannington.

Mannington is a daughter of the Jim Fleming bred Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay, so this is a family with a great deal of sentimental attachment for the Fleming's.

Interestingly, Mannington was bought by Darley for $2,050,000 back in 2005 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale and has spent most of her stud career in the Northern Hemisphere since then, although she is now back in Australia.

Mannington was returned to Darley Australia with a Southern Hemisphere timed cover to Shamardal (USA) and produced a colt from that mating last September. Now aged 17, she is back in foal to Lonhro.

Rhema has a yearling colt by Stratum, a filly foal by Sepoy and was covered last spring by All Too Hard.
