Newmarket trainer Amy Murphy has read all about the Great British Bonus and planned a campaign for Emotional Moment accordingly, the two year-old daughter of Sepoy making an impressive winning debut at Kempton Park on Sunday in the colours of Australian owner Gerry Ryan.
Ridden by Tom Marquand, she opened up to win by four lengths in a most encouraging performance.
"This scheme changes the picture altogether..." was the first reaction from Amy Murphy, explaining that her original plan was to campaign her filly in French maiden races because of the prizemoney.
The win of a £20,000 GBB at Kempton on Sunday for her success in a modest seven furlong maiden has provided a perfect result lucky owner Gerry Ryan.
Melbourne based Ryan is no stranger to racecourse success, having been the owner of Melbourne Cup winner Americain, amongst many other successful racehorses.
He is an admirer of British bloodstock, but not of their prizemoney. However, Amy Murphy is confident that this Great British Bonus will heighten his interest.
She is intent on winning multiple bonuses with Emotional Moment and is already fine-tuning this campaign accordingly.
Consigned by Newsells Park Stud at Tattersalls October 3 yearling sales, Emotional Moment was bred by the Barnett family and is from stakes-placed Rainbow Quest mare Moment of Time descending directly from third dam, Time Charter, a champion mare and four time Group I winner.
Amy Murphy was intent on buying her from first sight and was amazed to buy her for only 15,000 Guineas.
And that was when the pressure started. Amy had bought the filly 'on spec' and now needed to find an owner. Luckily someone was looking down on her from above.
Just days after the auction, English-based trainer David Menuisier won the Group II MVRC Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley in Melbourne with Emotional Moment’s half-brother Chief Ironside.
Almost immediately the telephone rang and Gerry Ryan became the owner. It is highly likely this is just the beginning of a very happy story...
