Debut Winner for Territories

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 14

Darley shuttler Territories (IRE) added a second winner to his tally overnight with a debut Doncaster victory for promising youngster Uncle Jumbo.

Trained by Kevin Ryan, Uncle Jumbo led all the way and refused to give in taking out the six furlong maiden by a short head with a couple of lengths back to the next horse.

“There was no reason Major Jumbo should've been that sort of price as he had been working well at home," said winning rider Kevin Stott.

“He's a very straightforward horse and we got it easy in front. He picked it up well at the three and really battled. He's a half-brother to a useful sprinter we have at home (Master Jumbo) and we're delighted with that. He was a bit naughty when he first came in but once we gelded him he's great to work with and he's just like his half-brother.”

A 40,000 pound purchase from the Goffs Doncaster Yearling Sale, Uncle Jumbo is a three-quarter brother to Group II placed stakes-winner Master Jumbo, who is by another Invincible Spirit stallion Zebedee.

The grey gelding is the fifth winner from five to race from Mizzen Mast mare Gone Sailing, who comes from the family of imported Australian Group I winner Foreteller.

Uncle Jumbo is the second winner for Group I winner Territories, who returns to Darley NSW this spring at a fee of $11,000.

His first Australian bred progeny are yearlings and sold for up to $350,000 at sales this year with 12 in total averaging $114,708.

Territories stands at a fee of $11,000 for 2020
