First Australian Winner for Real Impact

Mark Smith - Tuesday June 9

Second behind the Smart Missile gelding Kings Regency when making his career debut at Muswellbrook on May 24, the Paul Messara-trained Outburst made no mistake at his second in a 1400 maiden at Scone on Tuesday to become the first winner in Australia for the Group 1 ATC George Ryder Stakes and Group 1 Yasuda Kinen hero Real Impact (JPN).

Just as he did at his first start, Outburst tended to over-race early but when the pace increased Jeff Penza managed to have him travelling sweetly despite being caught three deep.

A menacing presence on the home turn, Outburst came widest of all before accelerating impressively to hold the challenge of the No Nay Never (USA) gelding Saquon by half a length with the Animal Kingdom (USA) gelding Underboss a further two and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Ouburst failed to make his $20,000 reserve as a yearling

The first two were the only two-year-olds in the field.

Outburst carries the colours of Arrowfield Stud having failed to make his $20,000 reserve at the 2019 MM National Yearling Sale.

He is the third foal and first winner out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Raweesha whose dam Wood Lane (Sadler’s Wells) is a sister to Group II Prix de Royallieu winner Moon Queen and Lindsay park’s problem child Rostropovich and a three-quarter sister to Barafamy, the champion 2yo filly in Italy in 1998, and a half-sister to the Group III winner and group 1 placed Inuendo (Caerleon).

Moon Queen is the dam of Group III winner Beauty Parlour as well as Kooringal Stud’s stakes-winning War Front stallion The Brother War (USA).

Real Impact (JPN) shuttled to Arrowfield for three seasons. The son of Deep Impact made an immediate impression with his first crop in Japan, which includes the recent Group 1 NHK Mile Cup winner Lauda Sion.
