Waikato Stud homebred Tommy Gold showed good ability in three starts during the autumn against tough opposition and duly shook off maiden status with a stylish victory at Randwick on Wednesday.
Trained by John O’Shea and ridden by Glen Boss, the son of Sacred Falls hit the line hard to power clear and take the 1100 metre maiden by a length and a half.
“This is the start of a nice racing career for him and we’ll see more in coming weeks and months,” said O’Shea, who indicated Tommy Gold may have another run before looking towards the spring.
Tommy Gold is a blueblood being the fourth winner from four to race out of Group II winning blue hen Gold Rocks, whose previous winners are Group II winners Gold Fever and Gold Rush as well as stakes-winner Calaverite.
One of the star lots in the upcoming Magic Millions Rosemont Stud Exclusive Online Sale is Lot 40 Gold Rush, offered in foal to Savabeel.
Given the potential of Tommy Gold, this family is looking like another stakes-winner is soon to be added to what is already an impressive page.
