Dissident Filly Impresses at Debut

Mark Smith - Saturday May 9

It’s no secret that the former Horse Of The Year Dissident needs another good winner or two and he may have found one in the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained filly Aidensfield who made a winning career debut Saturday’s Super VOBIS Noel Rundle Hcp (1200m) at Caulfield.Driving rain is no problem for Aidensfield (Reg Ryan/Racing Photos)

Ridden by Daniel Stackhouse, Aidensfield tracked the early speed set by River Twain and Show Some Decorum. She still had a bit to do when eased out four wide at the 200 metres before finishing powerfully to defeat the omen tip Out Of Isolation (Squamosa) by one and quarter lengths with National Choice two lengths back in third.

“We’ve always liked her. She's always shown ability but we haven't been able to get at her," Hayes said.

"She's just been a bit immature in her shins, She's been in and out a couple of times but we've managed to get her to the races today.

"Her build-up to the race was excellent. It was great to see her do it today and on soft ground, but I think she will be better on top of the ground."

"There’s no real plan for her at the moment. We will see how she pulls up. She might be one more run in her or we might tuck her away."Aidensfield a $125,000 Magic Millions Yearling

Sporting the familiar brown with white epaulettes silks of the Henderson family, Aidensfield was purchased by Lindsay Park Racing/Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $125,000 out of the Newgate Farm consignment at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the first winner for the stakes-placed Big Brown (USA) mare Muscovado who is a half-sister to the smart Exceed And Excel mare Sugar Babe winner of the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes.

The win of Aidensfield will be welcomed by Lime Country Thoroughbred who offer her 3yo three-quarter sister Jasmine Wind (Sebring) at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale (lot 234).

Muscovado was purchased as a yearling by Star Thoroughbreds for $120,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale before her purchase by Cook Bloodstock/Henderson Racing & Breeding for $100,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

She has a yearling filly by Astern a weanling filly by Zoustar and was covered last spring by More Than Ready (USA).

Five-time Group 1 winner Dissident will stand at a reduced fee of $11,000 at Newgate Farm in 2020.
