Will Arrowfield be the Promised Land for Written Tycoon?

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 3

The decision to send champion Victorian sire Written Tycoon as a rising 18 year-old to Arrowfield Stud probably surprised a few people and shocked Victorian breeders, but from a purely pedigree perspective it might be the best thing that has ever happened to him.

Written Tycoon has an affinity with daughters of Redoute's Choice. Written Tycoon is a grand-son of Last Tycoon (IRE), who has had a long and well documented affinity with Arrowfield Stud’s late champion sire Redoute’s Choice.

The pair combine in the pedigrees of 47 stakes-winners highlighted by eight Group I winners which include Written Tycoon’s La Luna Rossa, whose dam is by More Than Ready (USA) from a daughter of Redoute’s Choice.

Standing in Victoria, and also for a few seasons in Queensland in the early years, Written Tycoon has never seen a great deal of Redoute’s Choice mares, and certainly even fewer of the premium ones, in his 13 seasons at stud.

To this point in time there are just 31 named foals bred this way, but of those, 18 have raced and 17 have won headed by dual Group III winner Teleplay and Group I placed Masthead, who actually came from his first crop.

Written Tycoon covered six daughters of Redoute’s Choice in his book of 136 mares last season, but one would expect that number to be up in 2020, now that he’s headed to the very epicentre of Redoute’s Choice blood!

Written Tycoon is in hot form at present with his tally at the end of Saturday an impressive nine winners in past seven days and 30 in the past 30.

Written Tycoon stands at a fee of $77,00 this season down from $110,000 in 2019.
