A half-sister to Group III winner Bellevue Hill, promising two year-old Sebring filly Bellevue Star opened her account at Canterbury on Wednesday continuing a phenomenal run of success being enjoyed by her trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
A homebred for Aquis Farm, who race the filly in partnership, Bellevue Star failed to flatter in her only run at Moonee Valley last December, but was a different filly this time around.
Well primed with two good recent barrier trials, Bellevue Star went forward for Tim Clark to lead and held off all challengers to win the 1200 metre maiden by the best part of a length in class record time.
“She’s a well bred filly so it’s nice to get an early win for her,” said co-trainer Adrian Bott.
“There’s still a lot of physical improvement to come, but she’s a much smarter filly now.”
Her dam Bellevue Girl was bought by Aquis for $240,000 from the Newgate draft at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2016.
A winning full sister to Group III winner Sugar Babe from Group II winner On Type, Bellevue Girl is also a half-sister by Exceed and Excel to the dam of stakes-winner Typing, who is by Bellevue Star’s sire Sebring.
Bellevue Star is the fourth winner from four to race from Bellevue Girl, who has proven a good producer for Aquis and has a yearling filly by Pierro that made $370,000 at Inglis Easter, a weanling filly by Spieth and is in foal to Brave Smash (Jpn).
