Racenet lays for Saturday

Breednet - Friday September 1

Winter form is meeting spring potential and the Racenet analysts have put their heads together to give punters another tool to help them turn a profit with the Racenet lays of the day.

MORE TO GAIN

$3.80

Tough day at Randwick to fine a lay as most of the shorties do appear to be their right price but we’re happy to take this horse on. A fortnight ago stewards granted permission for the trainer to scratch him on a good (3) because she felt the track would be too firm. We know the track that day was probably closer to a two than a three because of the high winds but it hasn’t rained in Sydney for the past couple of months and we’re on a good (3) again on Saturday. He’s a horse that’s had issues in the past and he comes into this having not run for five weeks. Doesn’t look much speed on paper either which won’t help him as he’s a notorious slow starter.

GRANDE ROSSO

$2.60

Looks the winner and been backed accordingly however, we think he is under the odds and has a few things against him. The draw is not ideal and while bound to be fitter he has 59kg and giving weight away to some quality horses. If he is made to work up the hill to get to the lead he could be vulnerable late with some big finishers in the race.

RANCHO MONTOYA

$3.70

Only just out of two-year-old class and favourite taking on older horses. Made up ground first-up over 1350m and will appreciate the extra distance here but there are surely easier races for him at the fourth run of his career. Clearly has ability but happy to risk him here.

MISS JANE

$3.60

Won three of her four starts and favourite here. A speedy mare but this is a big step up in class. Drawn in barrier one and there looks good speed in the race so she might not get an easy time. Scratchings have made this easier but prepared to take her on up in class.

Belmont

TAXAGANO

$4.20

Won easily last start on a heavy track but has paid for that with a rise in weight. Likely to settle on pace and there looks to be good speed in the race. He’s obviously in the mix but we think there are better favourites to be on at the weekend.
