The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Dee I Cee surprised many at long-odds at Rosehill last Saturday but is out to prove it was no fluke in Friday's Listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m).
The six-year-old had not won since January 2015 before greeting the judge first in Saturday's Listed Premier's Cup (1900m).
However, he had placed on a number of occasions including a narrow second in the 2016 Newcastle Cup and co-trainer Adrian Bott hopes that Saturday's win will be the turning point.
"That win should give him some confidence to hopefully go on with it and prove that it wasn't a fluke," Bott said.
"I can't say I was expecting a win but we were expecting him to show huge improvement on his first-up run because it was an unsuitable race and he was only getting into the right conditions on Saturday.
"But it's not a surprise that he was capable of winning that race because he's shown his form before, it's more surprising that he hadn't picked up a nice race like that in his career in Australia."
Bott believes the quick back-up only enhances the gelding's chance.
"He did plenty of work going into that race so, I don't think the quick back-up will be an issue," Bott said.
"He looks fantastic and his work has been strong.
"His last three or four starts just weren't the right races for him and you go back to this time last year he was racing really well.
"People have probably quickly forgotten that form and were quick to right him off. He seems to be doing well and we think we've got him right and it looks another suitable race for him on Friday."
Dee I Cee is currently on the third line of betting at $7 with Sportsbet, with Sayed $1.60 to claim Chris Waller's sixth Wyong Gold Cup.
