Melbourne Cup hero Americain (USA) was represented by his first stakes winner in Australia when apprentice Kayla Crowther guided the Shane Oxlade-trained mare Eperdument to a hard-fought win in Saturday’s Group III Medallion Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville.
Given a positive ride by Crowther, Eperdument tracked the freewheeling favourite Heart Of Grace (JPN) but was put to an all-out drive 600 metres out.
After shaking off Heart Of Grace (JPN), Eperdument held the fast-finishing Master Chum (Clangalang) by a long-head with Heart Of Grace (JPN) (Heart's Cry) two and a quarter lengths back in third.
A $46,000 purchase by part owner Francesco Sghirripa from the Cornerstone Stud draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Eperdument advances her record to 7 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from 35 starts with earnings of $244,320.
Eperdument is the first foal of the unraced Redoute’s Choice mare Cislunar who was purchased out of the Darley draft for $20,000 at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale before selling again at the 2019 Inglis Great Southern Sale for just $6,000.
Not a lot wrong with her pedigree page either. She is a three-quarter sister to the champion Miss Finland.
She has a 2yo colt, yearling filly and colt foal by Cornerstone Stud’s former shuttler Free Eagle.
Eperdument is the first stakes-winner in Australia for Americain (USA) who also sired Causeforcommotion who won the Possibly Perfect Stakes at Santa Anita.
