The Rosemont Stud bred champion Alboran Sea got off the mark as a broodmare in South Africa earlier this week when she produced her first winner at Fairview racecourse.
Her three-year-old son Marmara Sea justified tote favouritism, when the 9-20 choice sauntered home to a three and a quarter length win in the 1000 metre maiden.
Ridden to victory by Greg Cheyne, the Soft Falling Rain gelding was having his first start for trainer Alan Greeff, with Marmara Sea having begun his career with Mike de Kock (also the trainer of Alboran Sea).
Sixth and second in his two previous starts, Marmara Sea races for owners Mary Slack and Michael J Javett, who enjoyed so much success with Alboran Sea.
Alboran Sea was South Africa’s Champion 3YO Filly of 2014-2015 and won or placed in nine of her ten starts, with highlight wins in the 2014 Group I Allan Robertson Championship, 2015 Group I Computaform Sprint, and 2015 Group I Betting World Cape Flying Championship.
Alboran Sea, who is from the same family as ill-fated champion, and Group I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner, Answer Lively, has an Exceed And Excel half-brother on offer at Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Rosemont Stud to sell as Lot 260 and is pictured below.
Alboran Sea was bought as a yearling from the Rosemont Stud draft at Inglis Premier for $105,000 by Form Bloodstock.
