Half Dozen Premier Stars for Daisy Hill

Boutique Victorian nursery Daisy Hill Thoroughbreds will present a terrific draft of six yearlings for Inglis Premier that are sure to enhance their already impressive record of racetrack success.

Daisy Hill is located in Doreen, some 26km north-east from Melbourne's CBD and is owned by Colleen and Kevin Bamford, who had the pleasure of owning and racing the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner – Americain.

The Bamford’s have a passion for breeding, raising and selling quality thoroughbreds with Daisy Hill’s 200 acres having been meticulously designed and purpose built over the last 20 years to provide the best possible pastures, fencing and facilities.

“Daisy Hill originally consigned yearlings to support Americain in the early years of his stud career,” said Stud Manager, Shane Freeman.

“Two years ago we made decision to split the broodmare band into two, keeping half the mares for breed to race while the others to be commercial.”

Daisy Hill averaged over $151,000 at the sale last year with a Northern Hemisphere conceived colt by Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn out of Paper Round (GB), making $425,000 to be their top seller.

His half-brother by Golden Slipper winner Vancouver is in the draft this year and will be offered as Lot 345.

Pictured above, he is the second foal of superbly bred Street Cry mare Paper Round, a grand-daughter of Group I Yorskshire Oaks winner Hellenic, a blue hen that has left three Group I winners and is also the third dam of Melbourne Cup winner and sire Fiorente (IRE).

“This mare has done a great job again, another well put together colt with a lot of bone. There’s been a lot of good reports of the Vancouvers, everyone seems to have a good one in their stable. They’ve shown that through their trials,” said Freeman.

“Even though Vancouver was a Slipper winner, I’m of the opinion much like the Pierros they’ll be better toward the end of their two year-old season and even better at three.”

The remainder of the draft is as follows:

Lot 103 Colt Cable Bay (IRE) x Colourmegal, by Galileo (IRE)

From the first crop of brilliant sprinter Cable Bay and is second foal of an unraced three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I placed stakes-winner Aloft.

Lot 237 Filly Pierro x Karata, by Elvstroem

Third foal of a winning sibling to Group II winners Outback Joe and Ustinov and daughter of Cups Queen and Australian Horse of the Year Let’s Elope.

Lot 346 Colt So You Think x Paris Tryst, by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA)

Half-brother to five winners headed by stakes-placed Yulong Baby and dam is a sibling to Group II winners Outback Joe and Ustinov and daughter of Cups Queen and Australian Horse of the Year Let’s Elope.

Lot 360 Colt Toronado (IRE) x Pitch Black, by Kheleyf (USA)

Third foal of an unraced half-sister to Hong Kong Horse of the Year and Australian Group I winner Desert Eagle.

Lot 375 Colt Real Impact (Jpn) x Protracted, by Encosta de Lago

Second foal of a half-sister to juvenile stakes-winner Doubt I’m Dreaming from European Black type family that has enjoyed Group I success in Australia with imported stayer Sir John Hawkwood (IRE), winner of the ATC The Metropolitan.
