$230,000 Deep Field Colt Stars in Inglis Classic Book 1 Finale

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 11

Newgate Farm’s Deep Field delivered again at Inglis Classic on Tuesday posting the highest priced horse in the final session of Book 1 with a terrific colt from Wind Shift selling for $230,000.

$230,000 Deep Field colt from Wind ShiftConsigned by Canning Downs Stud, the colt was bought by Regal Farm Partnership / Upper Bloodstock / Tang long Mckeever NZ and is the second foal of a winning Exceed and Excel grand-daughter of Group III winner Blue Storm.

The family has been productive in recent years producing Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Flit and stakes-winner Federal.

Deep Field finished as the leading sire by aggregate in Book 1 with 20 yearlings generating $2,832,000 at an average $141,600 with six colts selling for $200,000 or more.

He also had the top priced horse of the entire sale with his colt from Raheights made $380,000 for Torryburn Stud to the bid of Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu.

Deep Field is currently the leading sire of three year-old winners in Australia ahead of sires such as I Am Invincible, Fastnet Rock and Snitzel and his recent impressive Hong Kong winner Californiadeepshot undoubtedly has not gone unnoticed by Hong Kong buyers, who secured a number of his stock at this sale.

Deep Field had his service fee doubled last year rising from $22,000 to $44,000 and covered a whopping 256 mares so breeders obviously felt he was well worth the money and his achievements over the summer would justify that view.

Deep Field is a young sire on the up
