Full Sister to Gemma's Son for Perth MM 2020

Media Release - Saturday February 8

Gemma's Son confirmed his status as Western Australia's best juvenile by extending his unbeaten career in today's $250,000 Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at Pinjarra.

Gemma's Son wins the $250,000 MM WA 2YO Classic Sent out the $1.40 favourite with bookmakers, the son of Snippetson was strong to the line after leading throughout and repelling challengers in the straight.

At the post Gemma's Son had an almost two length margin over runner-up Surveillance ($26), while Watch Me Dance ($13) was a further length back in third place.

The win was the fourth for trainer David Harrison in the prestigious two-year-old feature - he now shares the training record for the Classic with Trevor Andrews.

"I didn't have any worries about the 1200 (metres)," Harrison said. "I think he'll be the perfect Sires' (Produce Stakes) horse."

"I'm confident he will run a mile. His mother was a staying type who won over 2100 metres."

Gemma's Son is shaping as yet another of the Perth Yearling Sale's best advertisements. Just under a year ago he cost Harrison's Bridge Patrol Lodge stable $20,000 from the Scenic Lodge draft.

Full sister to Gemma's Son"He was a neat, compact and athletic type as a yearling," Harrison added.

With just the three runs under his belt Gemma's Son has already won his connections, including 11 part owners, over $318,000.

The win provided a boost for the Scenic Lodge team as they will present a full sister to Gemma's Son as Lot 252 at the 2020 Perth Yearling Sale which commences on February 17.

The connections of runner-up Surveillance scooped the major portion of the inaugural Magic Millions WA Racing Women's Bonus - collecting $60,000 on top of the $37,500 prizemoney cheque.

Never before had connections of a runner-up in a WA race enjoyed such a celebration and made as much noise as most of the 28 part owners screamed their approval as runners flashed past the post.

The owners of Watch Me Dance ($10,000) and Janaura ($5,000), who ran third and sixth respectively, scored the other Racing Women bonuses.

Meanwhile, Cryptic Wonder reaffirmed his status as one of the most exciting three-year-olds in the state with an awesome first up win in the $150,000 Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (RL, 1200m).

Long range plans for the quality youngster came off when at his first start as a three-year-old he raced against his usual pattern and held out the promising Tommy Blue by a long neck.

"These are all my trotting owners," co-trainer Grant Williams said post-race. "So that's why I'm so emotional."

"It's just family and friends. That's the main thing. It's everything to us and this is one of our biggest days."

Grant and Alana paid $30,000 for Cryptic Wonder from the Western Breeders Alliance draft at the 2018 Perth Yearling Sale.

Lot 144 Lucky Street colt from Abitcrytpic"He's a very nice horse and he probably should be unbeaten," winning rider William Pike said. "I got lost on him one start there (when second)."

A son of My Admiration, Cryptic Wonder is one of two multiple metropolitan winners from two to race for the twice raced Bletchley Park mare Abitcryptic.

Abitcryptic's latest yearling, a filly by exciting freshman sire, and former Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic winner Lucky Street, is catalogued as Lot 144 at the upcoming 2020 Perth Yearling Sale for Western Breeders Alliance.

Inspections for the 2020 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale begin on Friday. The quality catalogue includes 21 lots by Gemma's Son sire Snippetson and three by Cryptic Wonder's sire My Admiration.

Blue Light Enhances Breeding Success
For successful breeding outcomes, timing is everything. The horse’s natural reproductive period coincides with the light-filled days of summer. As seasonal breeders, the naturally lengthening days of spring suppress melatonin and in turn stimulate reproductive hormones that maximise fertility for both mares and stallions.
