Widden Sires Quinella Tasmanian Derby

The Listed Tasmanian Derby (2200m) was run at Hobart on Saturday with victory going to the Scott Brunton trained Stratum gelding Vamos Raffa over Nicconi gelding Skyt.

Stratum is the sire of Vamos RaffaAlthough a maiden coming into this assignment, Vamos Raffa showed his potential with a last start third in the Listed Launceston Guineas and took another step forward when racing clear to win by two lengths over Skyt.

A $100,000 Magic Millions purchase for Laming Racing/Group 1 Red from the Baramul Stud draft, Vamos Raffa is another stakes-winner bred and sold by Gerry Harvey and has already won back his purchase price banking over $100,000 in prizemoney.

He is the first foal of Mossman mare Villa de Madrid, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Regina Madre.

Baramul Stud will offer her current yearling, a colt by Real Impact (Jpn) as Lot 156 at Magic Millions Adelaide.

Vamos Raffa is the 43rd stakes-winner for Widden Stud’s much missed Golden Slipper winning sire Stratum, whose young sire son Stratum Star has his first yearlings selling this year.
