David Ellis Goes To $800,000 for a Savabeel Colt

Mark Smith - Sunday January 26

There’s a new clubhouse leader at Karaka with David Ellis making the winning bid of $800,000 for Waikato Stud’s much-admired Savabeel colt out of the Group III Taranaki 2YO Classic winner Magic Dancer (Rip Van Winkle).

Fresh off the success of the Savabeel’s Cool Aza Beel and Probabeel in the Karaka Million 2yo (1200m) (LR) and Karaka Million 3yo Classic (1600m) (LR) respectively, Ellis has every reason to love the stock of the Waikato Stud super-sire and he was not going to be beaten here.

The colt is the first foal of Magic Dancer who is a half-sister to Group 1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes runner-up Manten (Encosta de Lago) and the stakes-placed Perkins (Sir Percy) out of the multiple stakes-winner Dazzling Belle (Desert Sun).
