2019 Breednet Favourite Foal Winner

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 19

It only seems appropriate that in a week Pierro took over as the leading sire in the country by earnings, he also gave us the 2019 Favourite Foal of the Year.

Pierro colt from Aonair - image Lisa RichardsThere was a close competition for the top spot, but in the end it was this Pierro colt from Aonair that was voted by our audience as their favourite.

Photographed by Lisa Richards at Willow Park Stud, the colt is the first foal of well bred Fastnet Rock mare Aonair, a daughter of stakes-placed Perfect Persuasion, a full sister to champion filly Alinghi.

“He’s owned by wonderful kiwi clients whom we’ve had since I bought Willow Park,” said Glenn Burrows.

“They purchased the mare off the track and it’s her first foal, he will go to Inglis Easter.

“From birth he’s been very independent and a show off for the camera, there’s many photos of him racing around or being a larrikin with his mates. We call him Willy, reason being one of the girls suggested it as he had a wonky ear when born (as in Willy Wonka) which was normal a few days after birth.”

Lisa Richards is a highly valued member of the Willow Park team and her images are always a highlight of the Breednet Foal Gallery.

“Apart from doing all of our foaling as her main job, she also takes these amazing shots of our babies in her own time,” Burrows said.

A star is born - the Pierro colt from Aonair comes into the world.“She will sit in the paddock for hours on dusk waiting for the perfect shot for the owners!”

We thank everyone for participating in our Foal Gallery and look forward to another great year in 2020.
