One to Watch – Canberra

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 15

Deep Field was in the frame again at Canberra on Sunday with a dazzling juvenile winner that continued the hot run being enjoyed by Peter and Paul Snowden and their powerhouse arsenal of two year-olds.

Nitrous as a yearlingNitrous made his debut in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate finishing a fading eighth after he led and pulled hard all the way.

He led again this time for Mitchell Bell, but travelled more kindly and was in a different class in the run to the line powering clear to win the 1000m dash by four and a half lengths.

A $450,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, Nitrous runs in the JHB colours for a syndicate of clients, who include some of his co-breeders.

He is the first foal from Group II placed Flamboyant Lass, a full sister to Group II winner Attention from the family of Group I winner Tempest Morn.

Nitrous is the third two year-old winner this season for Newgate Farm's Deep Field, who is the leading Australian second crop sire by winners (37) and the leading sire of Australian three year-old winners (34).
