South Africa’s Black Caviar?

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 14

Undefeated Foxwedge mare Run Fox Run kept her unbeaten record intact when returning from a spell at Kenilworth in South Africa on Saturday to win the Group II Southern Cross Stakes (1000m).

Run Fox Run as a yearlingThe Brett Crawford trained four year-old was favourite and ran out a dominant two and a quarter length winner clocking a slick 57.19 seconds and has now won five from five.

She was a $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Craig Roscoe and Brett Crawford from the Mill Park draft making her the most expensive yearling by her sire sold at that sale.

Run Fox Run is a half-sister to stakes-winner Guard of Honour and is the best of four winners from General Nediym mare Victory Cry, a full sister to stakes-winner Victory Chant and half-sister to stakes-winner Reldas from the family of Group I winner Serious Speed.

Mill Park sold the current two year-old from Victory Cry, a colt by Written Tycoon, at Inglis Easter this year for $900,000.

Victory Cry has a yearling colt by Astern.

Run Fox Run promises to be another Group I winner for Foxwedge, who now stands in Victoria at Woodside Park.

Also breaking his maiden on the same program was So You Think four year-old Kursk, who scored over 1600m by a length and a quarter for the Brett Crawford stable.

A $150,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Willaroon Thoroughbreds draft for C Roscoe / B Crawford, Kursk is the second winner from Emperossa, a placed Testa Rossa mare from the family of Group I winner Albany Reunion.
