Sydney Jump Club Host Thoroughbred Sport Horse Classes

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 3

The latest round of Thoroughbred Sport Horses classes were run last weekend at the Sydney Jump Club Summer Championships at Clarendon with our feature classes sponsored by Freedman Brothers.

Lois Fleming with BalboaThe weather was mostly kind with a little cloud cover taking the heat out of the day providing ideal conditions for those watching on with a number of racing identities in attendance including Katelyn Mallyon, who was competing for the first time on her OTT horse Lloyd.

This event again proved a success for well known jockey Jeff Penza who collected another rug with Eli Lamar, who has acquired a wardrobe of TSHA rugs this year!

This event also saw one of our youngest winners on a thoroughbred with 13 year-old Lois Fleming taking out the Group 3 1  - 1.05 class on Sunday.

Rocky, whose competition name is Balboa, has been doing this for a long time and his experience and Lois’s talent and enthusiasm made for a winning combination.

Thoroughbreds make great transition horses for children moving up off ponies, but not ready for warmbloods, so the TSHA classes are proving a popular option for many kids not quite ready for the open juniors ring which starts at 1.20.

Congratulations to all our winners and thankyou to our wonderful sponsors for getting behind what is becoming a very successful addition to the major jumping shows.
