Juvenile Trial Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 18

A big set of 15 trials at Hawkesbury on Monday morning included two heats for juveniles which were both won by Gooree Stud homebreds prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott with one of those winners a colt from an illustrious sire producing family.

Sole Heir is a three-quarter brother to leading G1 sire Smart Missile pictured hereBy champion sire Exceed and Excel, Sole Heir was having his second trial after finishing a green fourth at Warwick Farm earlier this month when not asked for much.

Fitted with blinkers this time and partnered by Nash Rawiller, Sole Heir jumped quickly to lead his 800 metre heat and when put under pressure in the straight responded well when pushed along by Rawiller to win by half a length in 47.60 seconds.

Sole Heir is a three-quarter brother to Group II winner and leading Group I producing sire Smart Missile being from top producer Comical Smile (USA), who has also left stakes-winners Surge Ahead and Kiss From a Rose.

Comical Smile is a half-sister to Group I winner Northern Meteor, who made a huge impression during his brief career at stud with his sire sons now including Zoustar, Deep Field and Shooting to Win, while other sire sons Eurozone and Fighting Sun have also produced stakes-winners.

Given the power of his female family, Gooree Stud will no doubt be hoping to keep Sole Heir as a colt and preferably a stakes-winning one!
