Enable Named 2019 Cartier Horse of the Year

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 13

Outstanding mare Enable has been crowned Cartier Horse of the Year for a second time, following a fruitful season which saw her win three of four starts in Group I races before finishing a brave second in the Arc de Triomphe, a race she had won twice before.

Owned and bred by Khalid Abdullah, Enable was also named 2019 Cartier Older Horse, bringing her total haul of Cartier titles to five during her career so far.

She is the third two time winner of the Horse of the Year award alongside Frankel and Ouija Board, the rising six year-old to remain in training next year with champion trainer John Gosden, who dominated the Cartier Awards.

Gosden also trains Star Catcher (Three-Year-Old Filly), Stradivarius (Stayer) and Too Darn Hot (Three-Year-Old Colt), who retires to Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud in 2020 at a fee of 50,000 pounds.

Charlie Appleby and Godolphin also claimed awards with two brilliants sons of Shamardal in Pinatubo and Blue Point, who stands his first season at Kildangan Stud in 2020 at a fee of 45,000 euros.
