Nicks That Click - An Oldie but a Goodie

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 20

Two stakes-winners from last weekend highlighted the power of very successful nick involving a Golden Slipper winner and a champion racehorse and sire.

Gamay is a new SW for the Lonhro x Canny Lad nick - image Grant CourtneyCanny Lad has long been regarded as an outstanding broodmare sire and two of his daughters delivered stakes-winners on Saturday in Gamay and Deprive, both of them sired by sons of Lonhro in Pierro and Denman.

The Lonhro x Canny Lad nick has been a good one for a long time producing just shy of 70% winners to runners with 188 winners from 269 runners.

Those 188 winners include 32 stakes-winners – 11.8% SW to runners - six of them Group I winners including current horses Arcadia Queen and Lyre as well as fertility challenged Kementari, who will be returning to work.

Lonhro has a good number of successful and promising sire sons at stud giving breeders plenty of opportunity to expolre this nick given  so many mares carry a line of Canny Lad as he is the sire of the dam of champion sire Redoute's Choice.
