Distance changes for Inglis Millennium and Sprint

Media Release - Sunday October 20

The $2m Inglis Millennium (Restricted Listed) and $1m Inglis Sprint will be run over new distances from next year.

The Millennium – won so impressively in its inaugural running earlier this year by Castelvecchio (pictured), the Classic Sale graduate turned G1-winning juvenile and G1-placed 3YO – will be contested over 1100m from February, rather than the 1200m of this year.

In addition, the Inglis Sprint will increase 100m to 1200m.

The announcement comes on the eve of Saturday’s $500,000 Inglis Banner at The Valley, which begins the 2019 graduates Inglis Race Series.

“These changes have been made following extensive communication with owners and trainers to ensure the best field sizes can be achieved for both races,’’ Inglis’ GM of Bloodstock Operations and International Development Jonathan D’Arcy said.

James Ross, the Australian Turf Club’s GM of Racing, Wagering and International, added: “In its first year the Inglis Millennium proved to be an instant success with inaugural winner Castelvecchio going on to win the Group 1 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes later in the carnival while the Inglis Sprint has produced many outstanding winners from recent renewals.’’

Horses purchased at Tuesday’s Inglis Ready2Race Sale at Riverside Stables that are not yet paid up for the Inglis Race Series for 2019 graduates remain eligible for entry.

Of this year’s Ready2Race catalogue, 129 are BOBS eligible and 27 are VOBIS nominated, while a number are already entered for the Inglis Race Series as well as the G1 Golden Slipper and the G1 Blue Diamond.

The catalogue features progeny of some of the most exciting stallions in the country such as I Am Invincible, Not A Single Doubt, Deep Field, Zoustar, Written Tycoon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Hinchinbrook, Nicconi, So You Think, Starcraft, Spirit Of Boom, Rubick, Shooting To Win, Better Than Ready and Brazen Beau.

There are also four outstanding colts by hot young stallions Vancouver and Pride of Dubai, sires who have enjoyed instant early success from their progeny from limited runners, as well as three sons of Rubick, the young stallion who sired the winner of yesterday’s $14m The Everest in Yes Yes Yes.

The sale starts 11am Tuesday.
