$210,000 Deep Field Colt Tops MM 2YO's in Training Opener

Media Release - Tuesday October 15
A quality colt by Deep Field topped Day One of the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale on Monday night when selling for $210,000.

Deep Field colt from KhamsaThe colt presented by Kenmore Lodge edged out four other youngsters who sold for $200,000 during a positive opening session for the breeze up style auction.

New Macau trainer Nicholas Moore, son of former champion jockey and prominent Rosehill trainer Gary Moore, will train the exciting youngster after signing for him in conjunction with stable client Francis Yip.

"I looked at all the colts in the sale and I thought he was the best," a jubilant Gary Moore said. "I love the sire, he is a great type andhe had perfect x-rays.

"The gentleman we bought him for is supporting Nicholas in Macau, so at the present moment the horse will be going to Macau."

"His breeze was very impressive and that was the reason we went after him because the main idea is to take him to Macau. I have taken horses out of this sale like (Horse of the Year) Viva Pronto and he was good enough to take to Hong Kong."

Four other two-year-olds tonight sold for $200,000 during the positive opening session of selling.

Aquis Farm Operations' Poet's Voice colt from Mairie (Lot 54) sold to Conway Wong and will head to New South Wales based trainer Kristen Buchanan.

Nicconi colt from Ms MarjuHong Kong's Peter Chan also went to $200,000 to secure Lot 70, the Nicconi-Ms Marju colt offered by Baystone Farm.

Infantry's three quarter brother by Tavistock presented by Alexia Fraser Bloodstock was sold for the same amount to Gary Ling and the China Recreation Club Syndicate.

Rounding out the quartet of $200,000 sellers was the second last lot in the ring tonight - the Headwater colt from Prison Rules who was offered by Symphony Lodge and was purchased by China based buyer Gu Tao.

All up tonight's sale opener produced a gross of over $4 million for 65 lots sold at an average price of $62,685 and clearance rate of 75 per cent.

"It's one of the best vibed two-year-old sales I've been to," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "We were unsure whether having the evening session was the right thing to do, but right from the first lot in the ring there was a real buzz."

"It's a really healthy market, but there's plenty of value to be had across all levels for buyers doing their homework. I am pleasedfor the vendors who have brought quality horses to the sale - they've been rewarded very well tonight."

"There's a lot of nice horses in tomorrow's catalogue and we hope tonight's positive selling continues through to the last lot," Bowditch added.
