The
mighty Pinatubo denied exciting young sire No Nay Never (USA) another Group I
winner over the weekend when his classy colts Arizona and Wichita placed in the
Group I Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, but the sire was quick to add another new
stakes-winner to his tally on Sunday with Tango taking out the Listed Legacy
Stakes at the Curragh.
Trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by his son Donnacha, Tango coasted clear to
win the six furlong sprint by six lengths confirming the potential she has shown
this season when contesting several Group I and Group II races.
Although not placing in them, she was competitive and most recently was fourth
in the Group I Cheveley Park Stakes before breaking back to winning form with
this performance.
"She is a smart filly and Donnacha [O'Brien] said he was very impressed
by here. We took the headgear off her and that was the sweetest she has ever
been. She was always comfortable and she could go to the Breeders Cup now,"
said Aidan O'Brien.
Bought for 200,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tango is the
best of three winners from Galileo mare Idle Chatter, a half-sister to
stakes-winner Vol de Nuit.
Tango is the 19th stakes-winner for
Scat Daddy's first son to stud in No Na Nay Never, whose first two crops have
so far produced 11.6% stakes-winners to runners.
He stands at Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $44,000.
