First Win for Magic Sale-Topper

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 9
Yarraman Park's champion sire I Am Invincible kickstarted the Kensington track meeting at Randwick on Wednesday with two impressive three year-old maiden winners in Willowheart and Faretti, who topped the 2018 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Faretti lit up the sale ring at the Gold CoastA $2million purchase for Reg Inglis/Jon Kelly/Paul Frampton from the Yarraman Park draft at the Gold Coast, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Faretti was thrown into the deep end at his only run last season finishing sixth of seven in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper won by Time to Reign on soft ground.

Spelled straight after, Faretti has won three barrier trials since August so was fit and ready to fire in this 1100 metre maiden.

He stalked the leader and powered clear over the final furlong, putting a gap on his rivals to win by two and a half lengths in a dominant display.

The Listed ATC Sir Brian Crowley Stakes on October 26 over 1200 metres is next for the stunning son of I Am Invincible.

Bred by Yarraman Park, who retain a share in his ownership, Faretti is the second winner from stakes-winning Magic Albert mare Tai Tai Tess, a grand-daughter of outstanding filly Arborea, the darling of the 1993 Melbourne Spring Carnival when she won the Thousand Guineas, Wakeful Stakes and finally the VRC Oaks.

Yarraman Park sold the full brother to Faretti at Magic Millions this year to Chris Waller/ Mulcaster Bloodstock for $1.3million and he has been named Volterra.

There is another yearling colt to follow by I Am Invincible from Tai Tai Tess and she's back in foal again to the champion sire.

I Am Invincible also won the first race with Torryburn Stud's homebred filly Willowheart, who set a new track record for 1100 metres when scoring a three-quarter length debut victory in 1:01.71.

The Chris Waller trained filly led all the way and ran them off their legs for an impressive debut win beating her stablemate Starla, who was a short priced favourite.

Both fillies look to have serious stakes potential and will be worth following into better company.

Willowheart is the first foal of Alicia Beth, a winning Street Cry (IRE) daughter of Group II placed Sharp Aunty, a three-quarter sister-in-blodo to Godlen Slipper winner Forensics from the famed Easy Date family.

Alicia Beth has a yearling colt by Deep Field and was covered last spring by I Am Invincible's Group I winning son Hellbent.
