First Win for Slipper Sibling

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 8
It must have been a painful decision to geld this $700,000 son of I Am Invincible.

Navy Cross as a yearlingA half-brother to Golden Slipper winner Sepoy and Group II winner Mulaazem, the Ga Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained three year-old gelding Navy Cross opened his account at Goulburn on Tuesday with a dominant length and a half win in the 1600 metre maiden.

Navy Cross failed to impress in two unplaced starts earlier in the year, but since being gelded has shown ability more befitting his pedigree.

Third at his first run back from a spell, Navy Cross upped the ante with his win today, leading all the way and winning with ease.

A $700,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Aquis Farm draft for Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott/Blue Sky (FBAA), Navy Cross runs for a syndicate that includes Mount Hallowell Stud, Aquis Farm and Emirates Park, who bred him.

Navy Cross is the sixth winner from seven foals to race from Danehill (USA) mare Watchful, who is a full sister to Group I winner Camarena, the dam of Group I winner Camarilla, in turn the dam of four time Group I winner Guelph.

It’s a hugely successful family that has had a recent boost with the emergence of Group I ATC Golden Rose winner Bivouac, who is from a half-sister to Guelph.

Watchful has a two year-old filly by Artie Schiller (USA) and was covered last spring by Ribchester (IRE).
