A powerful nick between champion Darley sires Lonhro and Exceed and Excel produced it's tenth stakes-winner on Saturday.
Foaled
and raised at Yarraman Park for Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell Stud, three year-old
Lonhro filly Taraayef gained valuable Black Type with a tenacious win in the
Listed VRC Poseidon Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
Trained at Lindsay Park by the Hayes Dabernig team, Taraayef was having her first run in four weeks and raced forward before finding the line strongly to win the 1100 metre dash by a head taking her overall record to three wins from six starts with prizemoney in excess of $223,000.
"I think fresh is her best asset," co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.
"She's a filly that doesn't need a lot of work and that's why I was a bit worried when it got into a bit of a dog fight late, but she held on.
"Some horses you need to tip the work into them, but a filly like her, you would tip her over the edge if you did too much."
Taraayef will head back to Lindsay Park's property at Euroa to prepare for the Group III VRC Kennedy Plate (1100m) at Flemington on November 7.
A half-sister to stakes-winner Haybah, she is one of five winners from good producer Sultah, a half-sister by Exceed and Excel to Group I winner Rebel Raider, Group III winner Shamoline Warrior and stakes-winner Cadillac Mountain.
Taraayef is the 87th stakes-winner for Lonhro and is the tenth stakes-winner bred on the Lonhro x Exceed and Excel nick that has proven highly successful with 11.6% stakes-winners to runners.
