A big day for Coolmore's American Pharoah (USA) who chalked up his 12th first crop winner when the highly touted American Theorem made a winning debut at Del Mar while the Wesley Ward-trained Four Wheels Drive took to the turf at his career debut in the black-type Rosie's Stakes at Colonial Downs to credit the Triple Crown hero with his third stakes-winner.
Ridden by Jorge Vargas, Four Wheels Drive camped just off the speed set by Newstome (Goldencents) before dropping that colt en route to a three and a quarter length score.
A $525,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling, Four Wheels Drive is out of the stakes-winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Funfair who was bred back to American Pharoah (USA) this year.
All three stakes-winners to date by American Pharoah (USA) have been on turf. Four Wheels Drive follows the Group III Prix du Bois winner Maven and the Skidmore Stakes winner Another Miracle while Monarch of Egypt has also excelled on the grass, finishing second in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and the Group II Railway Stakes on the same track.
It's all positive news for breeders in Australia as American Pharoah (USA) (image Mark Smith ) settles in to cover his third book of mares at Coolmore Stud at a fee of $66,000.
