Australia Brings Success for Jon Kelly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 31
The green colours and red cap of US investor Jon Kelly have enjoyed some success in Australia and featured in Ireland overnight carried by a blue-blooded two year-old filly that is actually by Epsom Derby winner Australia (GB).

Cayenne Pepper - Curragh Racecourse TwitterThe Jessica Harrington trained filly Cayenne Pepper made it three wins in as many starts when scoring a dominant two and a half length victory in the Group III Flame of Tara Stakes over 1m beating the Aidan O'Brien trained So Wonderful, with both fillies coming from the same female family.

"Cayenne Pepper hadn't run since July and she had to do that the hard way. She stays great and is so easy and straightforward. She's in the Fillies Mile (G1) at Newmarket, that's a possibility," said Jessica Harrington.

Purchased for 195,000 guineas in 2017 at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, Cayenne Pepper is the best of four winners from Elusive Quality mare Muwakaba, whose dam Saleela is a half-sister to Arc winner and blue hen Urban Sea, the dam of champion racehorses and sires Galileo and Sea the Stars.

The runner-up in the race, So Wonderful is by War Front from stakes-winner Wonder of Wonders, a grand-daughter of Urban Sea.

Being by Galileo's high class son Australia means Cayenne Pepper is line bred to Urban Sea's dam Allegretta and is the ninth stakes-winner bred this way with the best of them being Epsom Derby winner Masar.

Cayenne Pepper is the eighth stakes-winner for Australia, whose oldest progeny are three year-olds.

Mr Kelly has been a regular purchaser at Australian yearling sales and was in the partnership that purchased the Magic Millions sale-topper in 2018, a colt by I Am Invincible from Tai Tai Tess that made $2million.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Faretti has looked good in winning two recent trials following an unplaced debut in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper earlier in the year.
