Everest Contenders Impress at Trials

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 27
A big set of trials at Randwick on Tuesday morning featured plenty of potential spring stars with prime Everest contenders Sunlight and Classique Legend going head to head.

Lucky for racing fans, Sunlight is a mare! The Tony McEvoy trained Zoustar mare looked super sharp when leading throughout to win her 1000 metre heat by more than two lengths with Classique Legend steaming into second under a hold, both horses looking primed for their return.

Sunlight is scheduled to resume on Saturday week in what's shaping as a star-studded Group III ATC Concorde Stakes (1000m) field, taking on the likes of Redzel, pierata , Nature Strip and boom Queenslander Zoustyle.

The Les Bridge trained Not a Single Doubt gelding Classique Legend is expected to trial again before resuming in the Group II ATC The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick on September 21.

Both horses are confirmed starters for the $14 million The Everest at Randwick on October 19.

Racing fans could be in for some real excitement when these two meet on raceday and we can all be grateful Sunlight is a filly and not a colt or she would have been retired to stud as a triple Group I winner by red hot sire Zoustar.
