First Winner for Arabian Gold

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 21
A top class Group II winner that won just shy of $1million on the track, dashing grey Dubawi (IRE) mare Arabian Gold produced her first winner when talented Redoute's Choice filly Lakia scored a stylish victory at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Lakia as a yearlingTrained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Lakia was unplaced when making her dbut in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes during the autumn and was sent straight to the paddock.

The talent she had shown prior to that run has obviously now had a chance to blossom and Lakia was sent out favourite for the 1200 metre maiden after impressing in two recent barrier trials last month.

Entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas, Lakia charged out of the gates and made light work of her outside draw to quickly find the front for Tim Clark and then went on to win by two and three-quarter lengths.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott/Blue Sky (FBAA) from the Element Hill draft, Lakia is the first foal of Arabian Gold, whose best win came in the Group II ATC Golden Pendant.

Arabian Gold changed hands last year when snapped up by Heritage Bloodstock for $900,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and has already foaled this spring producing a Snitzel colt for her new owners.
